Blake Shier grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, where he graduated from Park Hill South High School. He then attended Truman State University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in history, with a minor in political science. He received his law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, where he was on the Dean’s List every semester and served as Senior Note and Comment Editor of the Journal of Dispute Resolution. While in law school, Blake clerked for Walther, Antel, Stamper & Fischer, P.C., and externed with the Office of the Federal Defender.
Following law school, Blake began practice in civil litigation at the St. Louis plaintiffs’ firm of Gray, Ritter & Graham, P.C., and later at Cook, Vetter, Doerhoff & Landwehr, P.C. in Jefferson City, where he handled business and real estate disputes, personal-injury cases, and complex class and commercial litigation. He then had the honor of clerking for the Honorable William W. Francis, Jr. at the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District.
After his appellate clerkship, Blake practiced at a prominent mid-size defense firm in St. Louis, where he represented healthcare providers and other defendants in high-exposure civil litigation matters. This defense-side experience informs his current practice by providing insight into institutional litigation strategy, motion practice, and risk evaluation.
Blake later served as Chief Counsel of the Securities Division at the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office, where he managed attorneys and staff, advised the Missouri Securities Commissioner, and assisted in regulating broker-dealers, investment advisers, and securities offerings throughout Missouri. He was subsequently recruited by the Honorable Mary Sheffield to clerk during her final year on the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District, and assisted Judge Sheffield in her role as one of only three Hague Ambassador Judges in the United States pursuant to the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction.
Blake joined Douglas, Haun & Heidemann, P.C. in 2025.
Blake lives in Springfield with his dog, Luna, a high-energy but loveable husky/lab rescue. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking the Greenways Trail, playing pickleball, and rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs.
